Unbeaten run ends at Rosehill

Rosehill Methodists 151-9 (Sarosi 33, Scanlon 31, Roberts 28, D Roberts 20 not out, Crawford 4-15)
Sunseekers 111 (J Taylor 37, Carpenter 23, Adeel 4-34. Scanlon 3-21, D Roberts 2-13).
Back down to earth for us after the epic at Sandiacre and plenty of evidence that cricket is, indeed, a funny old game.
Mogie, for example, the innings of his life for 93 last year on this ground: first ball duck this time. And your reporter: 0-15 from four overs of relative fitness. 4-0 from the next four after twisting my knee and hobbling up to the stumps. Work that one out. I can't. (And if anyone suggests I should bowl with a bad knee every week... I have been for years. So's Dave. It's never worked before)!
Phone rings, it's the roving LFC from Sutton: "How we doin?"
"We're in the pub. We've been stuffed!"
As last year, Rosehill were a pleasant lot. They got off to a good start but once Dave Evans made the breakthrough wickets fell steadily enough to suggest they might not make three figures. Once they got there, they didn't look back and 151 was really a bit more than we'd expected to be chasing.
Even so, things have been going so well of late that we felt fairly confident. Paul Downes' recent fine form ended with an excellent slip catch by Dave Roberts for one but with Jim Taylor looking in prime form, we were a third of the way to the target in seven overs.
One cover drive for four by Jim was the best shot of the day by some distance; his flat six over point was less orthodox but no less remarkable. Sadly, as Jim admitted, he was feeling a touch too comfortable and, after he played over a yorker for 37, the rot set in.
Forced to retire hurt with a trapped nerve, Kevin was effectively one more wicket down than the scoreboard suggested and, as stand-in captain with a sore knee, I'd have to admit that I was feeling it was "one of those days" well before the end. Sorry if that's not very motivational, chaps.
Kev bravely returned with Robin Hood as a runner... for one ball, as Ross was out.
It was left to the White Swan afterwards for a champagne moment to beat all of Robin's appeals for stumpings without the ball or with the wicket unbroken.

Ah yes, that's Sunseekers!
