"80 short" observed The Sage

What a great atmosphere. Colston did us proud again with this one and hopefully this will become a regular fixture. Steve Nichols and John Carpenter opened up the innings, brightly. Steve was dismissed in a spectacular fashion by the Brailsford opening bowler (subsequently to play for us at Abbotts Bromley). Seldom do we see a stump cartwheel these days. This brought Paul Downes to the wicket, he hung around for quite a while supporting Carpo ably, the famous straight bat seeing off the quickies but falling to a slower bowler just as he was ready to open his shoulders. A pity that as he was looking "magnificent" according to Brian. Carpo was joined by Robin Sibson who played "magnificently" - according to ... guess who - but that was the truth as he made a very good 35. Bully replaced Carpo and scored a whirlwind 12 which left BB and Moggie to nudge and nurdle the score up to 198. "80 short" observed The Sage (JC not BB or DBE this time but BB concurred - creep!)

Stewart and Jimmy "The Boy" downes opened the bowling. Guess what BB said. Brailsford's Kev Bould cut loose from the start. All of our bowlers were hit to the bounday on several occasions and the score moved along at around 5 per over, setting the game up for a good finish. With 8 overs to go, the game looked to be in the balance, a win was still not out of the question as the required run rate had been gradually increased. Alex Dowling took the game away from us with a hard hitting and rapid, or was it rabid as he batted like a mad man, 49 in those overs.

None of the bowlers were really tanked nor was there any mean bowling. We were never really out of the game but we were never really ahead.
