Boosemoor, Darley Fields, 29/6/03.

With regular Seekers Sibson, Taylor and That Other Bloke who keeps wicket appearing for the opposition in the annual reunion match, the scene was set for an enjoyable afternoon with some good-natured edge and so it proved. Unfortunately, from a Sunseekers point of view, the Boosemoor lads enjoyed the afternoon so much that they went and won, leaving us with the feeling that maybe we hadn't taken the game as seriously as we might.

Mick Wenn having won the toss, the opposition batted on a sponge of a pitch, bad even by Darley standards, and got off to a steady start through Adrian Harper and That Other Bloke. Four quick wickets for Fred, including an excellent return catch, appeared to put Sunseekers in control but That Other Bloke* was still hanging around. And when it got to the slog, Mick naturally threw the ball first to Colston and then to the Brontosaurus and Paul Boss carted them all over in a rapid 38 which turned a decent total into a very solid 177.The early departure of Steve Nicholls did not bode well and the Sunseekers reply continued to see wickets fall at regular intervals without anyone sticking around until Will Evans managed to, going on to a very fine 46.

John Hurd matched Fred's earlier caught and bowled when he clung on to a fierce drive from Colston and, with the ball taking an age to reach the bat, it continued to be 'one of those days' for Sunseekers. Defeat came at about 30 short with Hiscock run out without facing and Evans skying a slog to midwicket before a relatively gentle flinging of the bat (by his standards).

Still, socially a good afternoon, as it always is (and was) against Boosemoor and hard to begrudge our old friends a hard-earned win.

* Oh, all right then. Nigel: you batted bloody well mate, for your 70. Fielded crap though!
