Boosemoor 175-8 (50 overs) (Harper 39, Hurd 25, Bennett 3-37).
Sunseekers 176-7 (36.1 overs) (Carpenter 55, Gibb 34, Coxon 24 not out, Boss 2-21)
Sunseekers claimed the inaugural Flash Memorial Trophy in a marvellous game against Boosemoor. The trophy is named after Chris Hook, better knows as Flash, a stalwart member of Boosemoor who sadly died, aged 51, a few weeks ago. Henceforth, the annual Boosemoor-Sunseekers match will always be for this marvellous glass trophy.
With Adrian Harper's trademark crash through cover point in good order, Boosemoor got off to a good start with 48 for the first wicket before Kev Woodward took a good catch over his head to get rid of Chris Potter.
For Boosemoor, it became one of those innings where everyone chipped in, albeit not too quickly, wth all reaching double figures until the hapless captain, one R Sibson, gave Woodward a second catch without troubling the scorers. Greater embarrassment fell to Jim Taylor, however. After carefully ensuring he was not out to his own son, Jim was both caught AND bowled by Mick Wenn. Not a shot to remember, Jim, then again, neither was your reporter's dropped catch, a dolly to end all dollies, about which the only positive thing to be said is that it didn't hand the Little Fat Captain a second wicket.
After Paul Downes was bowled second ball by, he said, a straight one, Carpo and Gibbo embarked on a marvellous partnership of 85 which got the target well below 100 before the last 20 overs started.
After Gibbo was - customarily - run out, the LFC collected a duck, waiting for the decision as Robin grabbed the catch behind off his own boots. Umpires Bennett and Crawford's fingers were both heading for the skies... were one or two to be seen on the boundary as well?
Good, quick, contributions from Kev, Sam and Fred kept the target within reach, then a fine partnership of 33 between Benno and Ross did the job, Benno theatrically changing bats before stroking the cover drive of the day for four, Ross doing the necessary hitting and smashing the3 winning runs off the first ball of the last over.
The LFC managed not to drop the cup, which Robin immediately reclaimed for engraving and Adrian's words in memory of Flash afterwards hit exactly the right note to end a very satisfactory day at Draycott & Hanbury.
