Etwall Vets - 4th June
Posted Friday, June 6, 2008
Scores ... sorry, no idea but we had around 100 and Etwall passed it with a couple of overs and several wickets to spare.
We batted first on a beautiful sunny evening but a well-placed Etwall field made it difficult to score quickly, although Jim Taylor had a good go and was the first Sunseeker to retire on 25 runs. Robin was the second to do so, having scored his mostly in singles!! Freddy headed to the crease with a couple of overs left; his swashbuckling style paid dividends and he hit several decent scoring shots to give the final total an air of respectability. Knowing the Etwall lads as we do, we knew that we would need to bowl very well indeed as generally a winning total is about 20 - 30 runs more.
Fred and DBE opened the bowling, the latter bowled well despite his arm problem. Everyone fielded very well but the occasional 4 still got through BB's carefully placed field and the score rolled steadily on but we took a few wickets on the way. Will and Ross bowled well in the latter stages but Etwall always had enough in reserve to pass our total.
